Tectonics, seismotectonics, geodynamics
Tectonic maps are the graphic expression of the tectonic synthesis of a region, with the structural features being characterized by their morphology [and geometry] and history. More simply, one can say that they illustrate the formational history, both very ancient and recent, of the mountain belts and sedimentary basins that succeeded one another within a well-defined geographic domain.
Relatively new maps of a related type are concerned with the recent and/or current movements of the lithospheric plates, i.e. those depicting the actual movements (geodynamic maps) and those depicting the consequences (seismotectonic maps).
