Métallogenie / Metallogeny

Metallogeny

Also known as "gitological maps", metallogenic maps are of obvious economic interest because they show the distribution of potentially exploitable mineral deposits: metallic minerals (gold, copper, zinc, nickel, etc.), industrial and agricultural minerals and rocks (phosphates, salt, magnesium, sulphur, talc, clays for ceramics, etc.), uranium, precious stones (diamond, emerald, etc.). Other substances, such as ornamental stone and energy substances (coal, hydrocarbons) may complement the list on some maps. Deposit size and type (vein, breccia, placer, etc.) are indicated by suitable symbols on a background representing the varied geotectonic settings that gave rise to the different substances.
