« This atlas … is much more than an atlas on stratigraphic markers. It is an extremely valuable synthesis of high-quality data on both basin fill and deep structure of the western Mediterranean basins. As such, it provides future researchers with a unique opportunity to develop and test conceptual models on the connection of deep Earth and surface processes using the western Mediterranean as a key natural laboratory…The Gulf of Lion, a focus area of this western Mediterranean atlas, has been a prime area for quantitative rifted margin research as far back as the early nineties. These early studies demonstrated the need for more advanced models for rifted margin formation and deformation, including late-stage compression in this back-arc setting. » (Sierd Cloetingh)
« It is an excellent synthesis of all the geological knowledge possible to obtain on a margin including kinematics, deep structure, and sediment balance thanks to excellent dating of sediments. The task is rare, if not unique and should be honoured deservedly. » (François Guillocheau)
