"This atlas... is much more than an atlas of stratigraphic markers. It is an extremely valuable synthesis of high-quality data on the filling and deep structure of the basins of the western Mediterranean.
As such, it offers future researchers a unique opportunity to develop and test conceptual models on the connection between the Earth's deep and surface processes, using the Western Mediterranean as a key natural laboratory... The Gulf of Lion, a particular area of this Western Mediterranean atlas, has been a focus for quantitative studies on rift margins since the early 1990s.
These initial studies have demonstrated the need for more advanced models of margin formation and deformation, including late compression in a back-arc context". (Sierd Cloetingh)
"It is an excellent synthesis of all possible geological knowledge of the margins, including kinematics, deep structure and sediment budget, which can be obtained through good dating of the sediments. The task is rare, if not unique, and should be rightly honoured. (François Guillocheau)
