Description

The Changing Faces of the Arctic-PDF

Note: This atlas is subject to a licence agreement.

This publication is aimed at a general audience to provide an easy understanding of the structure of the Arctic, based on the latest geophysical data. It is also intended to be a teaching tool for secondary and undergraduate teachers in countries neighbouring the north polar regions.

Although the information provided in this booklet by the authors is current and in line with the latest state of scientific research in the field, it is important to note that some aspects of the geophysics of the region are still being actively explored and will need to change in the coming years. While recognising the difficulty of describing in a simplified manner a region of the globe as complex as the Arctic and making this knowledge accessible to a general audience, it is hoped that geophysicists will not find it too simplistic and will show understanding for this work.

The illustrations included in the booklet have been carefully selected to help better understand the concepts. Also, a glossary of Arctic-specific terms, considered to be of particular importance and identified by an asterisk in the corpus, has been added at the end of the text.

It is hoped that this simplified and educational presentation of the Arctic region will be of use to teachers and/or students.
