{"id":12824,"date":"2024-11-13T12:01:27","date_gmt":"2024-11-13T11:01:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ccgm.org\/?post_type=product&#038;p=12824"},"modified":"2025-02-10T18:46:51","modified_gmt":"2025-02-10T17:46:51","slug":"carte-structurale-de-la-caraibe-sig","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/www.ccgm.org\/en\/product\/structural-map-of-the-caribbean-sig\/","title":{"rendered":"Structural map of the Caribbean - GIS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Structural map of the Caribbean - GIS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note: This SIG is subject to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccgm.org\/en\/licence-contract-of-the-world-geological-map-commission\/\">licence agreement<\/a> to which you consent by your purchase.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This first edition of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccgm.org\/en\/product\/structural-map-of-the-caribbean\/\"><em>Structural map of the Caribbean<\/em><\/a>The Geological Map of the World (GMMW), produced by the Commission for the Geological Map of the World (CGMW) and due for completion in 2021, brings together terrestrial and marine data to provide a coherent representation of the geological and tectonic structures of the Caribbean region.<\/p>\n<p>Product content :<\/p>\n<p>-<strong> Vector layers (shapefiles)<\/strong> Separated according to their geometry (polygons, lines, points), they include geological formations and gravimetric and magnetic anomalies.<br \/>\n- <strong>Raster<\/strong> Includes terrestrial topography and marine gravity anomalies, as well as magnetic anomalies.<br \/>\n- <strong>Geodatabase<\/strong> LYRX: Open source format, compatible with most GIS software, although symbology may vary depending on the tools used. LYRX files are provided for optimised use with ArcGIS Pro.<\/p>\n<p>Methodology :<\/p>\n<p>The creation of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccgm.org\/en\/product\/structural-map-of-the-caribbean\/\">Structural map of the Caribbean<\/a> was launched at the General Assembly of the CGMW in 2004 (resol. 65) - following a feasibility meeting held in the Caribbean, in Guadeloupe (18 and 19 November 2004) - to fill the gap in the CGMW maps between the South American and North American continents and to highlight the main geological features of the plates interacting with the Caribbean plate.<\/p>\n<p>A relevant representation has been designed using a dual approach for onshore and offshore.<\/p>\n<p>A compilation of geological data from national maps and academic articles has been carefully carried out in large regions (see overlapping boxes in insert) of the map, while retaining its specificity.<\/p>\n<p>The legend is supported by an outline of the chronology of the formations in each major region, represented in the form of columns arranged according to stratigraphic scale.<\/p>\n<p>As the offshore area had been explored unevenly, the approach was different and based mainly on geophysical data to which were added the geological characteristics deduced from seismic or bathymetry.<\/p>\n<p>The geophysical data (marine magnetic anomalies) have been recompiled and fully reprocessed (Garc\u00eda-Reyes, 2018; 2021).<\/p>\n<p>We interpreted the crustal nature of the Caribbean Plate and Gulf of Mexico from recompiled marine magnetic anomalies and the vertical gravity gradient (Sandwell et al., 2014).<\/p>\n<p>An attempt has been made to correlate offshore and onshore data.<\/p>\n<p>With the collaboration of :<\/p>\n<p><strong>Geological Survey of Colombia :<\/strong>\u00a0Jorge G\u00f3mez Tapias, Nohora Montes Ram\u00edrez<br \/>\n<strong>Universidad Central de Venezuela\/FUNVISIS <\/strong>Franco Urbani, Ali R.
