Metallogenic map of Central America and the Caribbean-PDF

The Metallogenetic Map of Central America and the Caribbean, at a scale of 1:4,000,000, covers an area of approximately 4 million km2 and presents information on 567 deposits of metalliferous minerals, industrial minerals and gems. The database also includes data from 333 deposits and occurrences not represented for reasons of scale. It is accompanied by an explanatory text describing the tectonostratigraphic elements, the associated mineral deposits and a summary of the regional tectonic and metallogenetic evolution.

The map was digitally generated from the working documents of the Structural Map of the Caribbean (Bouysse et al., 2021). An adaptation of the geological information and reclassification and regrouping of the units in tectonostratigraphic terms were carried out to reflect the metallogenesis of the region.

The classification of the mineral deposits follows the genetic criteria that coincide with other Continental Metallogenic Maps of the CCGM-CGMW. Typical active margin deposits were identified, such as porphyry and epithermal types associated with island or continental arc magmatism. A simplified classification of paragenetic associations and an internationally used size scale were adopted.
