Who are we?

Created in 1913 at the 12th International Geological Congress in Toronto, lhe Commission of the Geological Map of the World is an international non-profit organisation governed by the French law of 1901.

It is responsible for the design, coordination, preparation and publication of small-scale geoscience maps of the global Earth, continents, oceans and major regions of the globe.

The CGMW is affiliated to the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) and the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG). Some of the publications of the CCMG are supported by theUNESCO.

Mapping the geology of South America

The Geological Map of South America (GMSA) at a scale of 1:5,000,000 illustrates recent progress in South America’s geological mapping. Information compiled from the national geological maps of different countries and regional maps was generalized and harmonized at the 1:5,000,000 scale and then enhanced with geochronological information from indexed journals.

CCGM membership provides access to a global database of geological information and makes it easy to tap into the technical expertise of our members.

The CGMW offers a platform for meetings between specialists through its presence in numerous international meetings. In addition, the subscription gives access on request, to the archives and to the maps of the CGMW since 1985.

In the age of the Internet, the presence on the digital web is an aspect that can no longer be neglected. 

Starting this year, we are offering member organizations the opportunity to be referenced in a blog post on our website ccgm.org, thus gaining significant visibility on the internet. Members have the opportunity to write an article describing their work and projects, including links, photos and videos that will be published on our site.
